There are three main types of dehumidifier. All of them involve a different process for collecting moisture from the air. Depending on the process costs and energy usage is different. Below are the main types of dehumidifier.
In Refrigerant dehumidifier, process is quite same as the process of regular fridge at home. In this process on a cool metal plate moisture air is condensed. A fan is used to draw air from the room in to the dehumidifier. The air is then passed through cool metal plates and when more moisture condenses on the plate it starts dripping in the water tank located below the cool metal plates. After constant working of this process the humidity level will be reduced to normal temperature and the dehumidifier will go on standby mode until humidity level start rising again.
Refrigerant dehumidifier works better in moderate temperature. In cooler conditions its performance might decline. Due to cool temperature ice starts forming on metal plates which causes lack of performance. It is the best option if you would like to use it in a normal temperature room.
In Desiccant Dehumidifier, a Desiccant is used to absorb water from the moist air. Desiccant is a material which can absorb water. In the Desiccant Dehumidifier a wheel revolves inside the air stream which is made up of desiccant. In the rotation, desiccant first absorbs water from the moist air and then hot air is used to dry the desiccant. The water is then collected in a tank or drained out using a tube.
Desiccant dehumidifier works better than refrigerant dehumidifier in cooler places. It also has more power to reduce humidity level to lower level. If you need a dehumidifier in a cool place then desiccant dehumidifier is the optimum choice.
In Peltier Dehumidifier current is passed through 2 different types of layered materials. This creates a heat-flux between them and starts transferring heat from one side to another. With this process the moisture condenses on the cool side of the material. Peltier dehumidifier works quietly, but it doesn’t have enough power to work in large areas and also uses more energy as compare to other types of dehumidifiers.
Peltier might not be able to fulfill all your needs, due to its low capacity and higher cost. If there is a huge humidity problem in a small room then Peltier dehumidifier will not work in that room also.
